It’s an older hotel, so sound carries and noisy guests can be heard. Still, I had a pleasant stay. My room was spacious with a nice view, and I enjoyed the different onsen and the fabulous buffet. The hotel is large and well placed for exploring the Daisetsuzan mountains, with the Mt Hakodate ropeway less than a 10-minute walk away. The Ainu presentation was wonderful.

For the price, especially for just one night, it was worth what I paid. This is the kind of per-night spend I can manage about once a year on my salary. The tatami-style room was my first experience of a Japanese-style tatami room, and I loved it. The onsen was the best, and the dinner buffet included unlimited alcohol. I enjoyed it enough to skip our night event.

We could watch the nearby Ice Festival right through the window, and the fireworks were crystal clear from our spacious, comfortable room. They looked stunning. Dinner had lots of choices, including delicious Shabu-shabu, and the Onsen’s outdoor bath had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended!

The service was good, and I especially liked the buffet dinner and breakfast, with trolleys offering lots of food choices. There are three excellent public Onsen venues, including ones with mountain and garden views, perfect during snowy weather. I chose an in-room Onsen, which was convenient for having a private soak as soon as I woke up. The pillow was very good and I slept excellently, fully recharged.

There are three onsens, including one with a good view of the waterfall festival. The buffet meals were okay. I was disappointed that my room upgrade added a living room but replaced the futon with beds.
