I stayed during Golden Week. The guesthouse is old-fashioned and pleasant, and it’s easy to find, very close to Futomi Station. There were rooms where the family could sleep together, which was useful since there aren’t many hotels like that. Still, it’s a good idea to check the details in advance. I’d read reviews and brought towels, a toothbrush, and pajamas. There was tap water in the room, and they said to use it. There are no convenience stores nearby, so bring your own drinks. They said they don’t currently have discount coupons for SeaWorld. I’d booked by phone a month ahead after being told that was better than booking online, but they apparently forgot the reservation. I called again a week before the stay, and thankfully it was confirmed. We were assigned a room at the back of the first floor. I arrived at 3 PM and was ready for bed by 9 PM, but guests upstairs kept us awake. Children ran around late, and adults stomped, banged on doors to smoke, and talked loudly. We were traveling with children too, but ours are well-behaved, so I was shocked. The landlady apologized repeatedly and said she’d warned the upstairs guests many times. I wouldn’t recommend staying on the first floor. Dinner portions were large, and I tried to finish everything to avoid waste, but the food wasn’t quite to my family’s taste. The landlady’s strong personality was fine with me, though some people may find her difficult. Check-in was 3 PM to 5 PM, and baths opened at 3:30 PM. Dinner started at 5:40 PM. Breakfast was scheduled from 7:30 AM, but they changed it to 7 AM when I asked. During peak season, the price was 9500 yen for adults and 9200 yen for children, with turban shells included in the course. Bring a towel, toothbrush, and drinks.

The couple who run the inn were easy to talk to, and we had a really enjoyable chat about family and everyday life. I was there alone on a weekday business trip in the off-season, so I had the place to myself. The bath was the first of the day, at a comfortable temperature, with hot shower water available right away. It was spotless, with no mold or slippery spots. The rooms and toilets were also very clean, with no noticeable odors, trash, or dirt. Dinner was enormous. The live spiny lobster sashimi was so big I couldn’t believe it. There was also steamed abalone, a sashimi platter with three slices of each kind, a whole barracuda, tempura, and more. I even drank two medium bottles of beer. Since I’d told them I was leaving at 8 AM, breakfast was ready at 7. The spiny lobster soup was fantastic. A few things to know: towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and combs aren’t provided, though body soap, shampoo, and conditioner are. There are no morning baths, and payment is cash only. The parking area is across the road, but there are no signs. I managed to pull into the property from the front, but traffic on the road was surprisingly busy, so getting back out was difficult. The inn is run by an elderly couple who do things at their own pace, so it may not suit anyone expecting very attentive service. I’d stay again if I had the chance.

Dinner was good, and they let me use the kitchen refrigerator since there wasn’t one in my room, which raises my rating a little. Still, the landlady was pushy and the stay was stressful. I’d pay a bit more for someone kinder. This place doesn’t suit anyone wanting a peaceful, quiet stay, since you have to be careful about how things work. At check-in I was told to ask permission because the bathroom is shared. After dinner, I called the kitchen staff and went to the bathroom visible to the right of the front desk. I took a shower to warm up and shampooed, then someone knocked and told me to leave because it was the wrong bathroom. I wish they’d explained that at check-in. I felt rushed, rinsed off the shampoo, and left soaking wet. It seems the bathroom I’d entered was at the back of the building, out of sight from the front desk, and I was told to wait because someone was using it. I thought the only difference between that bathroom and the one by the front desk was whether the bathtub was available, so I assumed I could at least shower. In the morning, even though I’d booked without breakfast, someone knocked on my door and shouted that I should get up for breakfast. They should check properly. They went from room to room knocking, so I was forcibly woken up. Then they started vacuuming the hallway at 7 AM, which felt like a sarcastic comment.

The meals were far better than I expected for the price, and both dinner and breakfast were really satisfying. I’ll definitely return. The beach is a perfect three-minute walk away, though it may not be safe for small children. There’s a steep, deep step at the water’s edge and strong waves, so keep a close eye on little ones. The building is close to the sea, so there’s some salt damage and wear over time, but it was meticulously cleaned and felt very clean. The bathroom was completely free of mold, which showed how thoroughly it’s cleaned each day. Service had a few inconveniences, but they were always happy to help. Bath times, location, Wi-Fi password, and meal times were clearly explained, whether or not the hostess seemed to be in a good mood. It’s likely she’s busy because she’s the only one working. They cook, clean, and do laundry from early morning, and she seemed to work diligently. Please check what amenities are provided before your stay. Staying here makes sense for the value.

I really hope this inn can keep going. The proprietress mentioned she wasn’t sure how much longer they could continue because of the aging workforce and labor shortage. I’d love to come back, next time for a golf trip with friends. There are several golf courses nearby. I stayed here on a solo motorcycle tour. The food was incredible: sashimi, boiled fish, grilled turban shell, tempura, crab, and more, all delicious. I added spiny lobster sashimi because I wanted to try the lobster miso soup, which cost 2900 yen. Room service was available, and outside food and drinks were allowed, although you have to take your bottles with you. I brought a 720ml bottle of sake. Breakfast was fantastic too, with grilled horse mackerel and spiny lobster miso soup made from the bones left from the sashimi. Two beers at 600 yen each, the lobster at 2900 yen, and one night with two meals at 8700 yen came to 12800 yen total. Great value. I used a nearby day-trip hot spring, so I can’t comment on the baths. The rooms and toilets were cleaned often and felt very clean, and the lounge had a stylish Western-style atmosphere. Some might find the proprietress blunt and gruff, but I found her very kind once we talked. I was impressed they could serve food of this quality at that price. There’s a swimming beach a three-minute walk away. I got up early to watch the sunrise and saw the spiny lobster catch being unloaded. You can eat seafood caught in the sea right in front of the restaurant.
