This is an old memory from around 2006, not really a review. Just before closing time, I left Kaikoen and drove east along National Route 18 to a Lawson convenience store. I bought a Karuizawa Rurubu guide, called a few hotels, and one said they wouldn't serve dinner but that staying would be fine, so I booked there. I arrived around 5:30pm and was greeted by a dog. After dinner at Kyu-Karu Ginza, I went for a bath at some hot spring or other. The room was nice and breakfast was delicious. Still, I remember checking out and paying, even though it was my first stay, and being told, "It's been a long time."

I stayed for one night with dinner and breakfast included. The courses were all tasty, especially the tender fillet steak and rich pumpkin soup with a gentle sweetness. Breakfast's homemade jam was excellent too. My only letdown was that there was no washlet in the room's toilet.
