The couple who run this place made us feel right at home. They looked up bus times for us and even drove us back to the station when we left. It’s about a 10-minute walk to a bus stop with regular service to Karuizawa, Kyu Karuizawa, Naka Karuizawa or Onioshidashien. A few restaurants and a 7-11 are also within a 10-minute walk. It’s a cute, clean property with simple rooms, shared bathrooms and a delicious breakfast. A cozy, homely stay in Karuizawa. Recommend!!
Dinner was full of delicious food, and the friendly conversations with regulars made the evening lively. That’s a special guesthouse feeling you don’t get at a hotel. This place has been in business for over 40 years, yet it’s clean and has a calm atmosphere that puts you at ease. It was well worth the drive from Saitama 🚗. Thank you for all the smiles 👍
The meal came as a course, but the dishes kept arriving at the same pace as they did for the other groups while I was slowly enjoying my drink. Before I’d finished one plate, another was on the table, until there was barely room left. I couldn’t help wondering if they were just trying to clear the table quickly.
The room was comfortable and pleasant, and the couple were so kind, always smiling. I especially looked forward to the next day’s breakfast and dinner, both were truly delicious. It made for the best travel memories. Thank you so much! *ˊᵕˋ*
The meals were so plentiful and delicious that thinking about them still makes my mouth water: appetizers, salads, hot soup, two main courses and dessert. In the morning, the landlady’s homemade black tea was fragrant and lovely. A warm cup before heading out on a chilly day was comforting. The guesthouse is very clean, with homey furnishings and decor. The facilities are a bit old, but that didn’t affect the stay much. Winter nights can still feel cold even with the heating on, so anyone sensitive to the cold may want to dress warmly for bed. The owner is welcoming and likes to chat. If you aren’t driving, she checks the day before you leave whether you need a taxi. You’re right by the mountains, and can take in their ridgelines from the nearby Shinkansen overpass. Hiking trails are close, making a half-day hike a good option. Karuizawa Station is about a 10-minute drive away, with well-known shops nearby including “Maruyama Coffee” and “Karuizawa Chocolate Factory.” Kumoba Pond is about a 30-minute walk, which is perfectly acceptable. A car or public transport is more convenient than walking, since the sidewalk doesn’t lead straight to Karuizawa Station. A taxi from the station costs approximately 1600-1800 yen. There were no children’s meals, so my 6-year-old son left quite a bit uneaten after filling up on his own meal, which was a shame.
