We started our first Japan trip at Katsuura, right after landing at Narita, and staying by the beach was unbelievable. Dane and Madoka were so kind and made us feel at home straight away. They kept in touch from booking through our arrival and shared recommendations and train tips, plus lots of helpful information for the rest of our trip. Want to see what might be Japan's best sunset? Come here. Want to feel at home? Come here. Want an easy start to your trip? Come to Katsuura and see Dane & Madoka at Splash Beach House. The train from Narita is cheap, whether you want to surf, relax, or simply ease into the trip. Do it!!!

The warm, welcoming atmosphere and lively surf feel were a lovely start to an ocean adventure. Dane and Madoka made me feel at home as soon as I arrived, and went out of their way to help with travel plans and getting around locally. I truly loved my stay at Splash Guest House. If you're passing through Katsuura and want to enjoy the ocean during your time in Japan, I highly recommend it.

Right by the beach, and just a few minutes' drive from several others. It’s a great little place if you’re into surfing. Dane and Madoka were really kind and helpful, and my room was clean and comfortable. :)

My brother and I came from California and booked an overnight stay in Hebara to get away from the summer heat. After taking the train from Tokyo to Katsuura Station, we got a taxi to Splash. Dane made us feel so comfortable. It's a sweet spot right on the beach, which we had all to ourselves, and the outdoor shower was a bonus. It reminded me of living on Maui. My prescription snorkel hadn't arrived in time, so Dane pulled a Macgyver and put together makeshift Rx snorkels for me. That was really kind of him. Madoka was lovely too, she made us a delicious breakfast and drove us to Seafari the next day. The snorkel trip was a lot of fun. We saw a school of fish, including tiny blue ones, and the seaweed and kelp forest was fascinating. Getting to experience Japanese waters felt like a dream come true. Afterwards, we walked 20-25 minutes to a bus stop and caught a bus back to Tokyo station. I wish we could've stayed longer in Hebara, and I'll definitely return. Shoutout to Mioya (local restaurant *cash only* with amazing sashimi), and big thanks to Alex and the other young lady tour guide who took us snorkeling. 10/10, five stars.
