Ryokan Tubakisou Kagetsu

Dinner was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the swordfish, one of my favorites. The sea was right outside the ocean-view window. The bath was clean, with a substantial rock surface and water at just the right temperature. Such a lovely family-run inn.

The setting made this stay special. Odahama Beach is about a five-minute walk away, and you can see the whole beach from the room. It seems there are showers and toilets for beachgoers in the garden, so in summer you could swim, shower outside when you return, then stay the night. The water at Odahama Beach is incredibly clear. We were very satisfied and want to come back, especially in summer. We loved the room's view over the sandy swimming beach. I could have stared at it all day, and with the window open you can hear the waves. In warmer weather, that would make a lovely lullaby. The building is old, as you'd expect at a rural inn, and we actually liked that. The lighting and electrical outlets have an old-fashioned charm too. If you want a sparkling-clean room, this probably isn't the place, but for us it offered more than that. The local food was amazing. Each ingredient was delicious, and there were so many dishes we couldn't eat them all. Dinner was in a private room during our stay, and the owner explained each dish before we ate, which made the meal even more satisfying. The owner and his wife were pleasant, and the staff were excellent. They were very accommodating with last-minute requests. The bath is another plus: instead of the slightly larger home bathroom you find at many guesthouses, there's a large hot spring-like bath that fits about five people, with around five showers. You can bathe whenever you like. Room, food, service, all excellent. I love guesthouses, and we'll be back.

The people at the inn treated us very kindly, and the food was the kind of thing you can only get here. We were very satisfied. My grandson says he wants to come back.

The staff were all friendly and kind, always smiling. The amenities are limited, though, so bring your own. You can pay with PayPay or cash. From the room, you can see Odahama Beach. We had a spacious tatami room and could relax away from the city's bustle. The seafood meals were incredibly lavish and delicious. In summer the steady sea breeze is refreshing, and the stars make a nice change from the concrete jungle downtown. I imagine the stars are beautiful in winter too. There's a big collection of books about stars, so it may suit people who enjoy stargazing.
