Okunoyu Moriyoshisansou

I came because I was invited for the bear stew, and the meal was delicious and satisfying. The simmered wild vegetables and steamed egg custard were good too, and with the all-you-can-drink option I was able to have plenty of alcohol. The staff were very friendly, which helps explain why so many people stay multiple nights. I brought a bath towel after reading a review that said there weren’t any, but towels were provided. Next time I’d like to come during the season for the open-air bath.

At 6,000 yen per person per night, this feels luxurious for the price: spacious rooms, generous meals, dinner with all-you-can-drink alcohol, and an open-air hot spring bath. The weak point was phone reception, which was almost nonexistent: SB had 3G, while au and Docomo had no signal. The inn’s Wi-Fi wasn’t very good either, but I still had a satisfying stay.

The food was mostly mountain vegetables, nothing fancy, but it was very tasty. During my stay, alcohol and soft drinks were self-serve and all-you-can-drink. I was told this arrangement was to make up for the staff shortage. The open-air bath was a little too cool.

All the staff were very kind. Dinner seemed to come with an all-you-can-drink plan, including draft beer, and there was self-serve Inaniwa udon and white rice along with the set menu. The main downside was breakfast: perhaps to avoid crowding, they provided a bento to collect from the front desk and eat in the room. It had salmon or chicken, a banana, yogurt, and instant miso soup. I really prefer a warm bowl of rice in the morning. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. If it’s weak in the room, it’s fast in the lobby. Autumn is stink bug season, and they can get into the room through gaps even when the windows stay shut. There was masking tape in the room to stick them on and remove them. I’d like to stay again in early summer.
