Orient Hotel Kochi

As a solo traveller from overseas, I was stuck when the train to Shimanto River wasn’t running that day. I had to cancel my plans there, including my hotel and car bookings, and I couldn’t speak Japanese. The front desk staff called both companies for me, even though that wasn’t their responsibility. I know English can be hard to find around Shikoku, and especially in Kochi, but they did their best to help. I would have been much more upset without them. The breakfast was fantastic too. To all the hotel staff、thank you very much。

The rooms feel old, and you can really notice the stale smell. On the plus side, the staff are very friendly and there’s plenty of parking. It’s near the city center, with a convenience store in the next building. Breakfast was really good, with a wide choice of Japanese and Western dishes. The restaurant is worth trying, and there’s a small souvenir counter by reception.

The room was very clean, and the service felt warm. The location is ideal, close to Kochi Castle and other tourist spots. Breakfast was very good too, so make sure to try it if you stay here.

The beds were made up well, and there’s a power extension cord with plenty of space to charge devices. But the rooms and furniture look quite dated. The shower temperature was hard to manage, swinging between very hot and very cold. Lighting was also limited: the main room has lights by the entrance, mirror, and beds, but no ceiling light above the beds.
