Tsuruya Ryokan

For a budget-minded traveler, this traditional Japanese ryokan is a good choice, with excellent service. We were welcomed warmly, starting with the parking attendant. Our room had the usual futon setup and was comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were included, and there was plenty of food. It was delicious. We stayed one night.

The dinner here is a chance to try nice Japanese food, prepared in an authentic style. It's a traditional Japanese hotel.

It's a souvenir shop.

I was here on a pilgrimage to Konpira-san and picked the cheaper old building, since either that or the new building would have been fine. The bath and food were good, but there was a cockroach in the room. I don't know if that's common. They did have insecticide, though it was for mosquitoes. The towels didn't look new. They seemed laundered, but seeing them hanging in the bathroom and toilet put me off. There was a complimentary area with alcoholic drinks, but the water provided to dilute them seemed to be tap water, not mineral water. It smelled terrible and I couldn't drink it. In the morning I went to the first-floor souvenir shop. The cashier knew I was there but watched YouTube loudly on her phone while drinking coffee. Is that acceptable service? I left wondering if this was meant to be the laid-back atmosphere of the region.
