Cypress Resort Kumejima

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the hotel makes a good base for enjoying Okinawa Prefecture's natural scenery. Its oceanfront setting gives you a perfect view, and being close to Kumejima Airport (IATA: UEO) is very convenient. I stayed in September 2022. My room was clean, though clearly dated, and bugs still got in at night despite the window screens being shut. The outdoor pool was great, but both it and the parking lot could use better lighting.

We were looked after well and ended up happy with our stay, though Golden Week prices are always higher. The restaurant servers could use a better understanding of the menu. As a chef, I expect my own servers to know what they're offering. We were offered other rooms after seeing room 304, and the alternative was better. That room shouldn't be rented. I'll leave it there. The hotel is the best on the island, old but good!!!

The view is lovely, the sunset is amazing, and they provide free pickup from the ferry station. The downsides were that the staff spoke no English at all, and a Deluxe room only came with two singles. Getting a double bed meant upgrading to a room that cost three times as much. The restaurant served breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but there was no way to get anything between those times.

The beach looks fantastic, though the water wasn't deep enough for swimming, and the pool didn't seem very clean. Getting around from this location isn't ideal, but they run a shuttle bus to many places on the island. The restaurant was good, maybe the best on Kume, and the prices felt reasonable for an island. Communication with the staff was difficult, but they did try to make us comfortable.
