Hotel Baygrand Kunisaki

A nice hotel, and they were accommodating!

We only spent one night, but it was great. The tatami rooms were well kept, and the indoor onsen has a sea view. With no taxi available for our early flight, the front desk manager drove us to the airport and saved our day.

It's easy to reach, roughly a 10-minute drive from Oita Airport, and there's also a bus from the airport. The front desk and restaurant staff were very polite. I missed having an outdoor bath, though the indoor one was very spacious. There didn't seem to be many guests when I visited, so breakfast was served as individual meals instead of a buffet. Both dinner and breakfast were very good.

We stopped here after walking along the coast, hoping to use the hot spring. At night, we missed the parking lot entrance twice because it was hard to spot. From the lot there's also a long walk up a slight slope to the hotel entrance. We were told the spring water was boiled, but after all that searching we decided to go in anyway. The changing room and bath were clean, and there were more than ten people there despite it being a weekday. The sign said to leave shoes in the locker and change into slippers, but there weren't any slippers. Entry was 400 yen, and the hours, until 9 PM, were reasonable. I wish the website said that the water was boiled.
