Annex Hotel Abe

There’s plenty nearby, from a convenience store to a 100-yen shop, drugstore, laundromat, home improvement store, and Shimamura. Marumatsu, the local Tohoku family restaurant, is about a three-minute walk away, so finding a meal is easy even with a same-day booking. The hotel and rooms were clean, and it was very good value. I liked seeing Airweave beds at this price. The bathtub didn’t have a water shut-off function, though that’s a small drawback. People searching for a place to stay often focus on Sendai, but Osaki and Kurihara have good options too.

The breakfast set meal was tasty, though the miso soup was very salty on the first day and bland the next, so it varied quite a bit. I came for two nights to visit the Kuriden Museum. The owner’s care shows throughout the hotel, not just in the rooms. I liked the design, the layout and spaciousness of the room, and the USB-C ports. There are also several kinds of rental bicycles that cycling fans would appreciate.

The manga selection kept me occupied for hours. I grabbed Tokyo Revengers on a whim, got hooked, and found bookshelves around the hotel with all the volumes of popular series. Manga fans should be happy here. I came with a friend after hiking Mount Kurikoma, expecting a decent business hotel, but the food was a surprise: dinner and breakfast were nutritious, filling, and delicious, and I cleared my plates. There’s no need to head out for a meal. I’d like to come back.

Dinner was really good, and breakfast was just the right amount. The hotel is out in the countryside, so it’s far from the station, but there’s plenty of parking and bars and supermarkets are within walking distance. The rooms feel nearly new, and the beds were clean without that greasy smell. The bathroom needed more attention: shampoo and other toiletries from the previous guest were splattered on the walls, and the curtain smelled fishy. Coin laundry and vending machines are available.
