We had our wedding here 💑. It's a great place.

The trip out here is worth it, even though the location is a bit remote and the price is high. Everything felt just right, from the food and baths to the rooms and service. The rooms are about the size of suites, and the renovated old house gives each building its own artistic character. The organic food was much tastier than I expected. This time I had chestnut rice, the best I've ever tried. The baths are excellent, too. My room's indoor bath was so luxurious and even had an open-air section that I didn't feel the need to use the large public bath. Probably the best ryokan I've stayed at in my life.

I've stayed at a lot of hot spring inns while traveling around Kyushu for good baths and food, and Fukahoritei is among the best for service. The water is excellent, the rooms are clean and roomy, and the food ranks in my personal top three. Prices are on the high side, but it's easy to reach from Fukuoka. I'd recommend it for a celebration or another special occasion. You won't regret it.

On this third visit I booked one of the new rooms with a sauna. Mine was upstairs, so it didn't have an open-air bath, but the semi-open bath and cold bath were both roomy and comfortable. The sauna fit two people, and I really enjoyed being able to pour the water myself for löyly. One small annoyance: my room was on the second floor of the main building, above the table tennis area and bar. I could hear doors opening and closing downstairs. Anyone who wants more quiet might prefer the annex. Meals are all gently seasoned, and there's so much variety that I always end up full.
