Kusatsu Onsen Boun

We only stayed one night and bought the wagyu shabu shabu set. Everything was fresh and tasted great, and although the staff spoke only a little English, that was enough. The ryokan is beautiful, and the onsen and spectacular outdoor area were highlights. The baths switch between men and women at different times, and there are two(?) natural onsen sources. I’d definitely come back for the hot spring!

We stayed for two nights and felt thoroughly spoiled. It costs more than other ryokans, but the atmosphere and overall experience were top notch. The place is large and well kept, with three different onsens to visit, all clean and well furnished. Our room’s private onsen was amazing. Probably the best ryokan I’ve ever stayed at.

The baths offer plenty of choice, with a wide range of toiletries, and the food was delicious. Rooms are large and clean, staff are friendly, and it’s only a short walk from the yubatake. Worth every yen.

We chose to include breakfast and dinner during our three-night stay, which was a nice way to keep warm through the winter chill. The meals were memorable and looked great: one night we had Wagyu, another lobster sashimi, and then lobster 🦞 miso at breakfast! The onsen was great too. Our room had plenty of space for our family of four, and the location made for an easy stroll to famous Yubatake in central Kusatsu and the Ghibli store.
