I stayed for two and a half days to get a break from the busy cities. The green surroundings and quiet area were beautiful. It rained for most of my visit, but the sound of the raindrops added a lovely, almost mystical feel. There are several relaxing onsen baths, and the outdoor one was a highlight. The hotel is a little removed from the center and Yubatake, about a 10-15 minute walk, but it's easy to explore on foot and you can take a shuttle from Karuizawa or the bus station. I hadn't noticed when booking that my room had no shower. I think that's true of most regular rooms. It wasn't a big problem since the onsen has plenty of washing areas, but check first if having a shower in your room matters to you.

The many onsens at Oyado Konoha, both public and private, were a highlight of our Japan vacation. It was such a beautiful place to relax, and we had an amazing time. I'd highly recommend staying here.

The public baths are large and nice, though they also seem short on upkeep. The rooms were small, dark, worn out, and dated, and the whole place needs maintenance. It's about a 15-minute walk to the main Kusatsu stripe, with an uphill walk back. Nothing is close to the hotel, and the shuttle only comes once an hour and stops at 8:40.

The room was worn and uncomfortably hot. There was no way to adjust the thermostat, the windows wouldn't open, and asking the front desk to lower the temperature only helped a little. I ended up pointing the air purifier/humidifier at us. The steep slopes also made walking to and from the hotel next to impossible. The food was great, and I enjoyed the courtyard garden. The public and private baths were excellent, especially the open-air ones.

The food was awesome and the staff were super great. There are free snacks during the day, plus ramen at 10pm. Both the shared and private onsens were incredible, and frequent shuttles help make up for the distance from the town center.
