The homemade meals were delicious, with just the right amount for both dinner and breakfast. My favorite was the meat at dinner 🥰 lol. The dining area had a cute retro look, and the owner’s favorite things made it fun. The owner was entertaining and showed us some interesting features of the pension. The homey, relaxing atmosphere suited us well for our first Kusatsu visit with my son. We chose a Japanese-style room. Kusatsu gets cold in winter, but the heating warmed it up quickly. The hot spring comes from a Kusatsu source, and when it wasn’t busy we could have it to ourselves. It was too hot for my young son to soak much, so he mostly showered, but he enjoyed stirring the water and dipping his feet in. It was nice to relax together as a family. They also helped us when my battery died on the way back. My son seemed to especially remember meeting the resident cat, Sasuke. Thank you very much! ☺️😌💦🙇✨

The stylish dining room and delicious food were a treat, and the owner was so kind. His collection and the adorable cat Sasuke welcomed us, which made both the adults and kids happy. The hot spring temperature was great, although my wife and kids were feverish. I got to relax in it once with my family and twice on my own. Most of all, I appreciated that he went out of his way to find a cable for our car with a dead battery (wry smile).

This was my second visit, and this time I brought a teacher from the US Consulate in Shanghai. He rated it very highly. Though he travels all over the world, Pension Bluebell made him feel comfortable and at home. The building is Western-style, the rooms are very clean, and the food is delicious.

I was there for an overnight golf trip, and really enjoyed the Kusatsu-specific hot spring baths and the owners’ sumptuous dinner. The hotel is full of the owner’s collection, which added to the fun. I also found comfort in the mascot cat, said to bring good luck to those who meet him.
