That view was the one good part. I booked after seeing photos that made the place look clean, but the slippers by the entrance seemed like cheap 100-yen-shop ones and were dirty. Inside, a pane of glass was broken, there was no washlet on the toilet, the bath was grimy, and the smell throughout the building was awful. It seemed to be run by older people who had been doing it for decades.

The room felt unhygienic, with hair on the floor and even in the refrigerator. The fridge was unplugged, probably to save electricity, and the built-in bath had a bad smell. The roller blinds were broken and wouldn't move. I was also uncomfortable carrying my things up to a third-floor room because there was no elevator. At check-in I was told dinner was at 6:00 with no choice of time, and when I arrived then, the table was empty; they said they were still cooking, and the food came out gradually. The changing area for the large bath was dirty, with belongings scattered around, presumably someone's. The building looked run-down, and the automatic doors had to be opened by hand. I thought the price was listed on Jalan, but there was another 1,000 yen charge, which they called a facility fee.

Inside, everything was carefully cleaned, right down to the small details, and the stay was comfortable, even though the exterior looks a little aged. From the room you can see the ocean and Hashigui-iwa, and during our multi-night stay they tidied the room while we were out. The building is large and easy to spot by the sea, but the hotel name is on a sign at ground level rather than on the wall, so I wasn't sure until the last moment. Coming from the Shingu side, turn right onto the narrow road just after passing the hotel to reach the parking area, and be ready for a tight drive. Their earnest effort really touched me. The meals were satisfying portions, and neither day's food was repeated.

Dinner was more lavish than I expected. With clear weather, I bet the night sky would have been full of stars.

They cooked one of the fish I caught for me, which was nice. I stayed several nights in summer while fishing and thought the two-meal price was low. Just keep in mind the baths close at 10pm, so this place doesn't work well for night fishing.
