Guest House Proof Point - Hostel

I left before the second night because I needed proper sleep and warmth. The stay was non-refundable, and it felt pricey for the service and conditions, so I also had to spend extra to return to Sapporo and book somewhere friendlier. It was a really unfortunate experience, and I hope the team makes changes so guests feel welcome. I paid to stay here after seeing the good service reviews and decent photos, but the place was disappointing. The lobby was the only part that looked presentable. The rooms didn't look like the official website photos, and the whole place had a creepy feel, especially at night when the lights were off. The room was so cold I shivered, and the bed reminded me of one in an old school infirmary. I felt scared in the room and on the way to the toilet because the corridor lights were all off. The toilet cubicle lights kept switching off every three seconds. I know they may be trying to save energy, but that felt like too much in winter when it's freezing and dark. The staff felt unwelcoming, and one gave an annoyed sigh that made me uncomfortable lingering in the lobby, so I went to the rooms. The only positives were that the room was larger than most single capsule rooms and the fridge had plenty of space. We had to take off our shoes on narrow staircase steps, which nearly made me stumble and fall. There should be a proper platform for that.

It was my first time in a guest house, and I loved it. The owner was courteous and could speak English. Everything was super clean and spacious for Japan, including the rooms, showers, and toilets. There are two floors, each with two showers and two toilets. The beds were comfortable too. I usually carry my own pillow when I travel, but didn't need it here.

I had a good time staying here with friends. It's a good hostel, and I slept well enough to feel ready for the next day, which matters at my age. Some things were a bit rugged, like you'd expect at most hostels, but that's part of the experience.

A nice, simple place to stay, very near the wharf and a reasonable walk from the train station. The receptionist was kind and patient, even with people who don't speak Japanese.
