Hotel Crown Hills Kushiro

The room was a bit small, but clean and comfortable, and good value for this area. The shower was excellent. Staff were friendly, and they have good coffee in the lobby.

You can park here for 500 yen a night. The rooms feel a little old, though they were generally clean. The toilet had a faint musty smell, perhaps because the ventilation isn't great, and the room air conditioning wasn't cold.

The location was good and the hotel was reasonably clean, but the way the staff treated us was awful. We were there for two days, and when we opened the blind we could see into a neighboring room belonging to a different hotel. My mum asked the staff about changing rooms the next day. They said the hotel was full, so at first I thought there might have been a misunderstanding. I spoke with the same staff member at the front desk, Odagiri. He said there was no room available on our first day, then refused several times when I asked to switch rooms the next day. He didn't apologize at all. I asked whether we could check out and check back in the next day to change rooms, but he kept saying no while I was still explaining. His manager arrived, and it sounded like the staff member told him to leave. I asked to speak with the manager, Ono, and was pointed to him, but he ignored us. We checked online and saw rooms still available to book at that moment. I realized the staff member hadn't checked the system when I first asked. When I said I'd report his impolite behavior, he said okay. After I continued, he indicated that he spoke “no English.” This wasn't about language. It was about basic respect and manners. We weren't asking for anything extra, just for something we felt we were entitled to.

It was a standard business hotel, neither the best nor the worst place I've stayed. Being near the station is handy, but the so-called “great bath” wasn't impressive for either size or quality. I'd aim for a room under 7.000, since more would feel too expensive here.
