We come to Waraku for the seasonal ingredients, from winter crab to early-summer white squid, and the abalone salt-baked in a pot that we always order as an extra. This time, for the first time, we tried the natural tiger pufferfish course, available only around the weeks before and after Golden Week. The seafood from Yuhigaura is so deep in flavor, it left me speechless. The beautifully arranged plate of tessa had a wonderfully chewy texture, and its taste is now number one in our ranking of inn meals. The grilled milt was extra-large, bouncy, and rich, and went down very easily with Waraku's own-labeled Junmai Daiginjo sake. The private garden by the detached building may be at its loveliest this time of year, with the flowers blooming and the moss at its greenest. Whenever everyday life wears me out and I need to slow down and reset, I visit Waraku.

No wonder it's hard to get a reservation here. The crab was cut into so many pieces that it was easy to eat, and the grilled fish had been deboned so beautifully. What skill! The food was delicious and just amazing. Definitely go check it out.

The rooms and food are good, but if you get unlucky and the nearby farmers spread fertilizer, the stench is awful. It hits you suddenly, and it's so bad that you can't open the windows or use the open-air bath. Without being able to enjoy that bath, staying here doesn't feel worthwhile.

I had a spacious room and really enjoyed the open-air bath. The staff gave us wonderful service, and the crab was fantastic. This was my first stay, and I'd love to book again in a different season. Thank you very much.

My first stay at Waraku was really pleasant, from start to finish. The staff were attentive, and the proprietress was friendly, easy to talk to, and charming. It's a standalone traditional Japanese house, so you can relax without worrying about other people. The room has both an indoor bath and an outdoor one; from outside, you can look at the garden and sky and unwind. The hot spring water is natural and changed daily, so you can enjoy it fresh. The crab dishes I'd been looking forward to were high quality and more than filling. Breakfast was lovely too, with each dish bringing out the ingredients, and even the white rice was so good I ate every bit. Japanese food really is wonderful. I'd definitely like to come back in crab season. Reservations fill quickly when the season opens in November, so I'd book early. If you're after relaxation, good food, and hot springs to ease the stress of work, I recommend it.
