We really enjoyed our stay. There are plenty of machiya options, but book ahead if you're coming in peak season. Ko at the Matchiya coutner was lovely and incredibly helpful. The team was easy to reach too, replying to requests and emails very quickly. Highly recommend booking through them!

A lovely little townhouse with all the facilities you need. Public transport isn't ideal, so it's better if you're happy walking. That worked well for us.

I loved staying in a traditional Kyoto home. Such a wonderful experience, and I'd definitely come back.

The machiya townhouse is near Nijo Castle, so it was a great base for sightseeing. Staying there also gave us a chance to experience Japanese culture, which is why I'd recommend it to foreign visitors. I went with an Australian friend, who had a great time and said he wanted to stay again. I'd happily return too if I get the chance.

It's in a quiet residential neighborhood, so nights are peaceful and comfortable. Nijo Castle and Horikawa Street are close by, and it's easy to catch a taxi from there.
