We loved every moment in this Machiya. It was a beautiful house inside, just a short walk from both the train station and the Gion area, and it was perfect for our Kyoto stay.

A lovely, quiet little haven with quality finishes and a great spot for exploring Kyoto, near Gion and Pontcho. Its simple but luxurious details give this traditional Japanese Machiya a modern feel. The staff at the parent hotel were especially helpful and friendly.

Getting around was easy, with public transport nearby, along with 7-11 convenience stores and some delicious local restaurants.

There’s a lot to love about the charm of this traditional house. The interior feels authentic to old Kyoto and is tastefully decorated, and the location is excellent, with two subway lines close by as well as the main street, shops and grocery stores. The Japanese-style bathroom is beautiful. The house is poorly insulated, which seems tied to its authentic character. There’s no storage, so clothes have to stay in suitcases. The kitchen is tiny and not very practical, and the washing machine doesn’t match the standard of the rest of the establishment.
