We were really impressed with the service at the Aoshida Machiya holiday house. The check-in desk took in our luggage a day before we arrived, then kindly delivered it to the house so we didn’t have to carry it over ourselves. They also arranged a taxi from the desk to the house at no charge, which was a lovely surprise. The house was comfortable and clean, with the toiletries and amenities we’d expect in a hotel room. Getting from the house to other parts of the city was a bit less convenient than we’d expected, but we’d happily book it again.

We had plenty of room to spread out, and the house was very clean and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. It was a welcome change from a hotel room. The area is quiet, and the train station is only about seven minutes away on foot. Highly recommended.

We stayed three nights and loved the place. It’s near the main attractions but away from the busy areas, which was a big part of what we liked about it. There’s really nothing bad to say. We’ll come back next time we’re in Japan. 100% recommended.

It’s a great base for exploring Kyoto, with the central area about a 20-minute walk away and a bus stop roughly five minutes away. The house is bigger than many places in Japanese city centres, and the neighborhood is generally quiet. The one drawback is how little soundproofing there is. That seems common in Japan, but you can hear even a pin drop down the road.

The place is small and cozy, good for relaxing at night, and felt better than a hotel to me. The beds were comfortable for two, or two with a child, and kitchenware was provided. The walls are thin, so partying would be rude to the neighbors. I like a peaceful place, so it suited me well. Convenience stores and the train are close, and the aquarium is a 10-minute walk away. I recommend it.
