Campton Kiyomizu

It was so quiet at night, even with restaurants, shops and souvenir stores right outside. Our room looked out toward a major temple, and the location in Kyoto's old tourist district was hard to beat. The hotel has a beautiful old-style feel and was huge by Japanese standards, with two big bedrooms and a spacious shared living and dining area. Service was available during the day and was adequate. A stunning place, and I’d recommend it for its quality and location.

The staff were lovely and so helpful. They even booked our bus and taxi back to the airport. This was such a special place to stay, with perfect accommodation in a location that couldn’t be better. A wonderful end to our fantastic trip to Japan. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Kyoto at night was a highlight, quiet and beautiful once the day visitors had gone. The place itself gave us the feeling of living in Kyoto for a while, rather than just passing through. Inside, it was spotless and modern, while still holding onto that old Kyoto character, with all the amenities we needed. I was especially looking forward to the wooden tub, and loved it. Filling it brought out a lovely woodsy smell that made the bathroom feel like a forest. The tatami room was a nice place to relax, and the beds were so cozy we kept sleeping in. It was a comfortable base for sightseeing and soaking up the city.

We stayed in room 5 and had a really lovely time. The traditional ryokan space has two levels and is beautifully preserved, with modern touches. After days of walking 20,000 steps, the big wooden soaking tub in the main bathroom was such a treat. The busy street outside was completely inaudible from our room, which is set well back. On the first night we had no neighbors, but the next night made the thin walls obvious, we could hear nearly everything. I suspect room six would give you the most solitude if it’s available. I’d happily stay again.
