For the price, it was a straightforward stay, with a private bathroom and a window that opened a little for fresh air. Rana at the desk was the best part, such a kind, lovely person and always brought a warm, lively energy. One thing for housekeeping: I was staying alone in a twin room, but the other bed had no sheets. It made the room feel neglected. Making both beds would look nicer and feel more welcoming.

It was easy to get around Kyoto from here, with bus stops close by, and the service was great. There’s also a path along the waterway right in front of the hotel. We loved walking there during our visit, with sakura trees all around.

The room felt like it was from another era, and the bathroom was so cramped I could barely turn around. I stayed three nights and there was no cleaning at all, they didn’t even take out the trash. Also, if your plug adapter has a grounding pin, ask reception for one without it. My room had no outlets that could take a grounded plug.

The room was spacious for a hotel in this price range, and the staff were friendly. But the place feels very dated and could use a renovation. The construction site next door was awful, with work going on until 6. Getting to the subway was easy.

My friend and I had a really nice stay. It was clean, the staff were lovely, and Nijo Castle is just a five-minute walk away. There’s plenty of good food nearby, and public transit makes it easy to reach lots of attractions. The room might feel small to some, though it seemed like a pretty typical size for Japan.
