We had a very pleasant three-night stay and would happily return. The place was clean, with a well-equipped kitchen, and the host and staff were very helpful. They also suggested some excellent restaurants. The location worked well for us, though we took taxis to different places. It would be nice to have a choice of Japanese or European breakfast.

It was great having a delicious breakfast delivered every morning, and the people running the place were friendly and ready to help. The house is large and beautiful, well suited to a family or a small group of friends, with room to make meals at home. We liked having a peaceful place to return to after exploring. Getting to the classic sights on foot isn't practical, and the nearest public transport is the JR, which runs less often than the subway. That's the one drawback.

The location made it easy to get into Kyoto while still feeling tucked away. Service was attentive without getting in the way, and the house felt calm and thoughtfully arranged, with natural materials, soft lighting, and clever details that made it both useful and relaxing. It brings modern comfort together with the quiet charm of a traditional Kyoto townhouse. A memorable place to stay. This review is long overdue from our June 2025 vacation.

Breakfast was a highlight: a traditional vegetarian Buddhist meal brought to the quiet tatami room. The house is a beautifully updated traditional Japanese home, with a kitchen, a peaceful tatami room, simple serene bedrooms, and a bath that was a real treat. Soft morning light came through the shoji screens. Check-in was seamless, and service felt consistent with Maana’s other locations. We loved our stay at Maana Kyoto.

The onsen bath, peaceful back garden, and beautifully restored bedroom made this traditional machiya a special, calming Kyoto stay. Such a gem. I'd definitely come back if we're in Kyoto again.
