Hotel Androoms Kyoto Shichijo

The on-site onsen was a lovely way to unwind at the end of a long day. It was clean and inviting, with that traditional feel. My room was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was beautiful. They provided a coat brush, shoehorn, pajamas, and other amenities. Staff were attentive and efficient. You can also rent bikes, use laundry services, and there’s an indoor smoking room. I loved my stay at hotel androoms and would absolutely return.

The rooms were spacious and clean, with a modern bathroom and toilet, and the hotel is close to Kyoto Station. We had a great stay overall, but checkout left a bad feeling. At check-in, the staff member pointed to a paper showing 10am and told us the checkout time was 11am when we asked. At checkout we were charged 1100yen for staying an extra hour. The staff member insisted our confirmation said 10am, even though we’d verbally checked and been told 11am. We paid because we knew it wasn’t that staff member’s fault, but it felt like we’d been scammed out of the 1100yen through no fault of our own.

The room was spacious and clean, and worked well for a family with young children and luggage. We were four, two adults and two young kids, but because of space limits the hotel could only give us a room with three beds. The adults weren’t very comfortable sharing that setup, so we wish there had been enough sleeping space for everyone. The location was convenient, about seven minutes on foot from Kyoto Station, beside restaurants and a convenience store, or Kombini. Don Quixote was a three-minute walk and Kyoto Tower five minutes. There’s also a nearby bus stop for Gion. We enjoyed the well-kept public bath, and guests who used it got free ice cream.

If breakfast and amenities don’t matter much to you, this is a lovely, simple hotel, and the rooms are nice. We didn’t use the onsen, but having it as an option is a nice touch. Still, I wouldn’t stay again. Compared with other places at a similar price during our three weeks in Japan, breakfast was a letdown. There are only two choices, and the wait was incredibly inconvenient, up to 30 minutes. We couldn’t even get coffee while waiting. There’s no coffee machine, and you have to pay extra for a latte instead of plain coffee. The set-menu breakfast seemed largely prepared in advance, but took long enough that you can’t count on being on time if you’re starting early, have a taxi booked, or have a scheduled tour. It was frustrating.
