The hotel’s rooms are simple, but tidy, comfortable, and have the basics covered. There’s a cafe and lounge off the lobby, with a small outdoor terrace, and the staff were kind and helpful. They’ve installed an elevator, which makes coming and going easy. The real reason to stay is the view. I can’t think of anywhere else in Japan where you get such an iconic one for so little. The table and chairs by the window let you sit and take it in. In the morning, the fog rose over the mountains; at sunset, the light fell over the mountains, bridge, and river as lanterns came on at the ryokans and nearby historic buildings. It was peaceful and lovely.

We stayed for three nights in early December 2024, when the foliage was beautiful and the service was great. The hotel is listed as three stars, but I think it should be four. For me, the view, location, and included breakfast were all five-star. They also lend bikes for free.

The breakfast was tasty and good value, and I could use a bike for free and get a discount on the onsen. My room had a lovely river view, the service was excellent, and the WiFi was fast. Had a wonderful stay. What more could you ask for?

The staff were superb and even carried our luggage since there’s no elevator. We especially liked how quiet the neighborhood was. A small shop about four minutes away had food we could take back when we arrived late, which helped since most nearby restaurants close early. The hotel was my favorite on this trip, and it’s close to the Bamboo Grove and the monkey park.
