I’d happily stay here again on my next trip to Kyoto. The staff were kind and helpful, the beds were comfortable, and the location was perfect. Breakfast was delicious, with both Japanese and Western choices. I always went for the traditional Japanese breakfast.

The concierge was fantastic while we were planning our trip. They gave us restaurant recommendations, helped secure reservations, and pointed us to local spots that were just what we wanted. The hotel itself feels modern and beautiful while keeping a Japanese aesthetic, and everything was clean and well maintained. We loved the very relaxing onsen, open all night, and the breakfast was very good. It’s also in a fabulous spot near Kyoto’s best places. I highly recommend staying here, and we loved our time.

We’re staying two more nights, but I wanted to write this while we’re here. This has been one of our most pleasant hotel experiences in Japan so far. We’d carried our bags all the way from Osaka because we hadn’t forwarded them. As we arrived, a very sweet young woman came out to help. I felt a little awkward handing over my heavy luggage as a large man, but she insisted, and talked us through the hotel and its amenities while moving our things. We arrived very early and knew the room wouldn’t be ready, so we just asked to leave our bags. The staff were accommodating. When we came back later, there was a line. The same woman greeted us and showed us to seats, another staff member brought tea, and a third went to get our belongings. Everyone spoke English very well, so there wasn’t any confusion. The woman who helped with our luggage later took us to the room, even sending us by a separate elevator so it wouldn’t feel cramped. She showed us how to contact reception, prepare for the onsen, and find drinks and slippers. She’s been an absolute superstar. I wish I’d caught her name, and if I see her again I’ll add it here. The room is spacious, with a massive bed that could probably sleep four comfortably. There isn’t much of a view, but that’s to be expected in town. The onsen was nice, and gender-specific key cards help make sure no one enters the wrong one. There’s also a lounge with drinks and light bites, nothing fancy, but a nice touch. Breakfast is optional and pricey at $30-40 per person, but the choices included made-to-order omurice, duck, intricate desserts, dumplings, and pastries. Service was very good and the staff were friendly. The room was big and clean, the onsen was nice, and the location was great. At $300 a night it isn’t cheap, but it really added to our Kyoto experience. I’d recommend it if you’re after a premium stay.

The hotel held an unexpected little traditional craft activity this morning, and we got a small keepsake to take away. It was fun, and the young woman leading it was delightful. The guest lounge is intimate, with coffee in the morning and cocktails at night, and the bartender makes a very good martini. Every staff member we met was kind, gracious, engaging, and helpful with questions or requests. The beds were comfortable and all the details felt right. The Celestine in Kyoto is beautiful in an understated way. We couldn’t have enjoyed the stay more.

Everything looked and felt brand new, and this was the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It’s beautiful and modern, with a great spot for walking or taking transit around Kyoto. We especially liked the Byredo bath products and Ippodo green tea in the room. For that level of cleanliness and service, the price seemed fair. Everyone could speak English, and we’d stay here again on our next visit to Kyoto. We were there in May 2026.
