JAM Hostel Kyoto Gion

The male dorm was basic, but it had what I needed, and the beds were more comfortable than I expected. Getting around the city was easy from here. It’s kept clean and in good shape, and the price felt fair for what you get.

I’ve been back to Jam a few times and would happily return again. The owners are such kind, fun people, and their English is great. They went well out of their way to help me each time, and hanging out with them at their Sake bar was a blast. The Sake there is terrific, too.

We mainly needed somewhere affordable to sleep and shower between time out in the city, and this hostel near Gion worked well for that. Our room was small and up on the second floor, so hauling our heavy luggage up the stairs was a pain. The bathroom and washing machine are on a different floor. The staff were friendly, attentive, and nice. Wishing you all good health!

There was no service staff around during the day, and the bed was hard and uncomfortable. The stairs are so narrow that bringing luggage up is a hassle. The location is right by the Yachuan River, which is really its only plus. Down the alley there’s a shop in the red light district, and at night there are street girls everywhere. It felt very unsafe.
