Karasuma Annex - Vacation STAY 11171

The location is amazing and hard to beat. The rooms are a little small, though that’s pretty normal in Japan.

The listing photos on booking.com don’t really do the place justice. It was incredibly comfortable and good value, with clean rooms, private washrooms, a washing machine, fridge, and a kitchenette stocked with cutlery and cookware. Check-in was easy, and the location was wonderful. Since we arrived in the morning before check-in, they let us store our luggage.

Those beds were so comfortable, I loved them. The place was clean, comfortable, and well located, with good air conditioning. The instructions for getting the key and entering the building and room were helpful. We arrived in the morning and had to wait until 16h to check in, so the coin lockers in the building came in handy. I couldn't figure out how to get hot water in the shower. It was over 30°C outside, so I didn't really need it, but the button I tried only gave warm water for about a minute before it turned cold again.

We stayed for over a week and never saw the owner. The place felt very neutral and anonymous. You can't park bicycles inside, which is a shame since Kyoto is great to explore by bike. The location is very central, with lots of food and shops nearby, a supermarket with international products two minutes away, and a playground about five minutes away. It's a clean guest house, a five minute walk from U station. You get in using a code for the post box with the room key, so read the email instructions carefully. It took us a while to get the combination right. The rooms are clean, and the larger ones have decent space. There's no TV. Towel changes cost extra, though the price is reasonable.
