Kumoi Kiyomizu

The apartment was clean, and I’d book it again. Getting there with all our luggage was a bit of a struggle, but most attractions were within walking distance. I’d definitely recommend it.

We booked for six days, and the house was lovely and in a quiet neighborhood, but cockroaches ruined the stay. We found several on the second night and contacted management. They responded and said they’d fumigate the next day, but we saw even more overnight. Our one-year-old was sleeping on the floor, which made us especially worried. After a sleepless night, we decided to move to a hotel. Management found another place for us by midday the next day, but only after we asked them to look, and by then we were already at a hotel. We ended up paying twice for our Kyoto stay and lost a day packing, moving, and unpacking. The place should have been fumigated and cleaned before guests arrived. They could at least have offered a refund for the ruined stay, but they didn’t.

We stayed four nights, and the place was filthy. There were cockroaches, food under the beds, and dirty mattress covers that were yellowed, with what looked like sweat or urine stains and hair. The agency had to spend a full day cleaning and doing pest control before it was back in order. It’s also very small. I’m 177 cm tall and kept bumping my head on things, so anyone over 160 cm may have the same problem. I wouldn’t recommend renting it.
