Kyo no Oozora Houka

My grandson is just 1 year and 1 month old. Even when he cried, we could enjoy ourselves without worrying about disturbing the people around us.

Our child has only just started walking, so we chose a whole house for our Golden Week stay to give them room to be a bit rowdy. It worked out really well, with more than enough space for the three of us. The landlady was thoughtful and kind, and had toys and a diaper box ready for the children. The facilities suited a longer stay, including a drum-type washing machine upstairs on the second floor. We chose breakfast only and later wished we’d ordered dinner too. There’s a famous tsukemen place nearby that does takeout, which was a nice bonus. You do have to check in at the main office, while checkout can be handled by phone. We stayed here with our family during Golden Week.

We came back after staying here last year, and our daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren were all delighted by the attentive hospitality. They had prepared a baby futon and a diaper disposal bin for our 9-month-old grandchild, which we really appreciated. Our grandchild loved the inn and wants to come back.

The location made sightseeing easy, and staying among the ordinary townhouses nearby gave us a taste of daily life in a Kyoto machiya. We were there with our daughter and son-in-law for an adults' school trip. From the street it looks like a typical Kyoto machiya, but inside it has been renovated and was comfortable. Looking out at the lit-up inner garden while soaking in the bath at night was so calming.
