You’re staying in a local grandma’s very traditional home here. She only speaks Japanese, but she’s warm and kind, and happy to chat or answer questions. I could also wash my clothes for ¥500. The bathroom is shared, so it’s a good fit only if you’re comfortable with that, but I’d absolutely recommend it. It’s a long way from many sights, though close to the mountains and the onsens in Kurama. After my stay, she even drove me to the local subway station so I wouldn’t have to walk as far. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

This was three years ago, and I had such a lovely stay. The host asked me to call her obaasan (grandma). I didn’t know much Japanese, and she didn’t speak much English, but we had really fun, meaningful conversations over tea with Google Translate. She used to run a ryokan and has a fascinating outlook and story. I’d definitely recommend the place if you’re after a quieter neighborhood with nature nearby.

My wife and I had such a lovely stay with the wonderful lady who runs the house. The room and neighborhood were both great, and the atmosphere was lovely. She was so kind, gave us directions and recommendations, and even gave us a ride. Definitely a 10/10 if you want a nice place to stay in Kyoto!
