The WiFi was really bad, intermittent and unstable throughout all three nights, and the router seemed very weak. Sharing one bathroom with the other guests took some planning too, since showers weren't allowed after 11:30 pm. With all eight people from levels 4 and 5 trying to wash up before bed, there was time pressure. I eventually realized I could use the vacant bathroom downstairs, but it took a while to figure that out, and only worked if the level 3 occupants hadn't returned. Toilet paper also ran short over the weekend and public holiday Monday, when all rooms were occupied. On the plus side, the room was spacious and fairly clean. The laundry was excellent, with a washer and a private balcony area for drying clothes. There was also a fridge, hairdryer, and kitchen facilities in the common areas.

Affordable place near Kyoto Station, with friendly staff, clean dorm beds, free coffee, and a nicely arranged common area. There was just one shared bathroom for the two dorms on each floor.

My first time in a hostel, and I was really pleased with how nice Lantern Guesthouse was. The facilities were very clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was a communal kitchen. Wakka gave me a warm welcome. Lovely hostel and friendly host!

Takeshi was friendly, helpful, and knew the area well. The pretty lantern house was nicely decorated, clean and quiet, and conveniently placed near lots of attractions. It was a unique stay, with laundry, a kitchen and fridge, and a nice living room.

We were lucky to find this place at 10 pm after missing our train to Tokyo. The host was funny and very helpful. It's a nice, clean place with great facilities, and it's pretty close to Kyoto the train station.
