It’s a little out of town, but the subway is about a five-minute walk away and makes it easy to get anywhere. Our split-level room was very spacious, and the staff were friendly. Other guests should keep in mind how sound travels, though noise transfer was very low compared with other hotels in Japan.

This place was an absolute nightmare, and we left early. The room was tiny, enclosed, and had no light, like living in a shoe box in poverty. The bathroom was detached and freezing. The property itself is small and dilapidated, with just a handful of rooms and no service. It felt like a freezing cardboard box. We wanted to try a more boutique traditional experience and deeply regret it. Maybe it would be somewhat acceptable at 10% of the price. Are some of the other reviews fake? There are so many better and cheaper options. If you’re considering it, save yourself the trouble and go anywhere else. You’d be better off sleeping on a cold sidewalk.

We got hot matcha when we arrived, and yukatas and other amenities were available. The location was great too. I only stayed one night, but loved it and highly recommend the place :)

The people were really nice and helpful, smiled a lot, and could suggest places nearby. The ryokan is in a quiet residential area, within walking distance of good izakayas and a metro station. We stayed a few nights, and it was definitely worth it if you want the traditional house experience, tatami and all. It was clean and cozy. You can sometimes hear the neighbors, which comes with thin paper walls. I’d recommend it for a stay of 2-4 days.

My wife and I stayed here in April. It’s not the most luxurious place, but the prices are reasonable and it gives you a feel for what living in Kyoto might be like. The concept is interesting and worth checking out. Definitely recommend it. We wrote a full review on our blog randrwander if you want to read more or see pictures!
