The room was clean and spacious, with a lovely mountain view, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a quiet place to stay. The train station at Higashiyama is about a 10-minute walk away, though getting to or from Kyoto Station means changing trains. Tenjuan Temple and Kegan Incline are also nearby, around a 20-minute walk.

We stayed in a standard room with two people, and it was simple, clean, and spacious. Sleeping on traditional tatami mats was something we wanted to try on our first trip to Japan. The private bathrooms were great, and there’s also an onsen as an extra amenity, though we didn’t get to use it. The staff were kind and courteous, and happy to answer questions or give directions. The Japanese breakfast was delicious. The location is directly across from The Kyoto Museum of Art, and the lobby and patio look out over the river, which must be especially lovely during cherry blossom season. Cute and quaint, a hidden gem. We’d definitely stay here again next time we’re in Kyoto.

The basement onsen was a lovely way to unwind after a lot of walking. Our comfortable room had a table, electric kettle, bathtub, cozy private bathroom, and fridge. You can warm food on the first floor. There’s no elevator, but after eating so much delicious Japanese food, walking up to the fourth floor felt like good exercise. The staff were polite and friendly, and the location was amazing. I don’t understand the low reviews. I’d absolutely stay here again.

My wife, our seven-year-old, and I stayed three nights and had a lovely time. The location is amazing, and the beds were comfy. Everything was clean, the breakfast was lovely, and the facilities were great. The staff were so friendly too. It’s good value for money, though at this price there are some things in the rooms that could be improved.

The festival was a memorable part of my stay. I was there for the Mitarashi-sai at the Shimogamo Shrine and the Gion Festival, and the friendly staff shared information and even guided us to the festivities. I also found a nearby shop with a stunning collection of real samurai swords hundreds of years old. I bought a practice Iliado sword as a keepsake, and a handmade kitchen knife from a shop that only sells kitchen knives. Ask the hotel staff where to find it, I forgot the shop’s name. The inn is close to public bus stops and subway stations, which made exploring other sights easy. It’s also just a short stroll to Heian Shrine and the impressive Torii (Big Gate), with charming shops and good restaurants along Nome Street. My western-style room was compact but suited me well, with a private bathroom, clean amenities, toiletries, and a kettle for tea. The hotel has beautiful Chrysanthemum flower murals in parts of it. The AC was a welcome break from the summer heat, and the affordable price left me more money for food and souvenirs. I missed the Japanese breakfast on my first morning and went to a nearby coffee shop instead. On the second morning I tried it, and the variety of small, tasty dishes was a highlight. Kyto Travellers Inn was a gem, and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable, affordable stay and a feel for local culture.
