Oakwood Hotel Oike Kyoto

The plugs by the beds were handy, and the room was clean. Getting there with luggage meant quite a walk from the nearest train station. The main issue was how little space there was: our twin room had one chair and an over-bed table, both of which just took up room, and though a folding luggage rack was provided, there wasn't space to unfold it. The curtains barely block any light. The rooms were warm, and the air conditioning wouldn't go below 20 degrees. The bathroom extractor fan couldn't be turned off, so it made noise all night while we were trying to sleep.

The breakfast was delicious, and the staff were really professional. The rooms felt larger than the usual Japanese hotel rooms, and everything was spotless. It was pretty much perfect. The only small drawback is that the metro and buses are a bit far away, though walking or waiting for a bus makes it manageable.

Shinichi, the front office manager, really made our six-night Kyoto stay. He was always ready to help with anything, and his dinner recommendations led us to our favorite meal of the trip. The hotel was reasonably priced, about a 10-minute walk from Nishiki Market, and convenient for reaching the train stations. There’s also a 7/11 just a three-minute walk away. We’d definitely stay here again.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel provides free tea and coffee in the lobby each day. It’s well placed between the two main metro lines, which made getting to attractions easy. The service was great too.
