There was plenty of room to open three large suitcases, and the luggage forwarding service came in handy. The nearest bus stop, Rajomon, is just a two-minute walk away, though the hotel is quite far from the city centre. The room had nearly everything: an induction stove, fridge, microwave, washing machine, TV, heater and AC. I could open the windows for fresh air, and the bathroom fan settings helped dry clothes quickly. We didn’t have enough cutlery, so we kept having to wash it. The heater also worked poorly for two nights, but staff fixed it.

Getting around takes some extra effort. There’s a bus stop nearby, but buses don’t come often, and there isn’t much around the hotel. Still, if you’re fine with walking or travelling a bit, it’s good value. The rooms were clean and spacious, the beds were good, and the AC worked well. Staff were really friendly, and you could rent bikes outside.

The room was nice, but check-in for every Stay Sakura property is handled by the person at Stay Sakura Kyoto Tsubaki. Go to Tsubaki to check in before heading to whichever other Stay Sakura place you booked.

Having a washing machine in the room was nice, and the reception staff were kind and helpful when problems came up. The rooms could definitely be cleaner. The location is a long way from anything of note, and sound carries through the connecting doors between rooms. We could hear our neighbours snoring and talking.

It’s very clean and quiet, with no odd smells, and the room is among the most spacious I’ve stayed in in Japan. There’s a washing machine and an indoor drying room, plus ventilation and an AC/heat pump that worked great. The induction cooker, pot, pan, kettle, microwave, and fridge were useful too. The main drawback is distance from attractions: the nearest train is 1 km away, although bus stops nearby go to popular spots like the Gion district.
