The room was bigger than I expected, very clean, and nicely decorated for my birthday. I loved the tub with jets. There was a noisy air-conditioning-like sound outside our “window,” but earplugs helped. I’d suggest adding a full-length mirror, especially since there’s room for one. Better than expected :)

We found chocolates, drinks and matching pajamas waiting in our room, with origami as an extra little touch. The staff were accommodating with almost anything we asked for, and it was a lovely surprise. This cute boutique hotel is within walking distance of the imperial palace and not far from the train station. Very recommended.

A proper five-star hotel, with top service, really large rooms and very good breakfast. It was a bit far from most of the places we needed to go, apart from Kyoto gyoen and the bamboo forest.

The way the staff handled my wife’s birthday surprise is what made our stay at The Screen so special. They helped me arrange lovely gifts and were thoughtful and attentive throughout. I tried to leave a tip to thank them, but they politely declined and said hospitality was a pleasure, not something they expected to be paid extra for. That sincerity meant a lot to us. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and full of flavor. The hotel is close to many main attractions, yet peaceful enough to relax. Our room was spacious, comfortable and beautifully designed, mixing modern luxury with Japanese elegance. From arrival, the staff were kind, professional and attentive. We had a wonderful stay, and I wholeheartedly recommend The Screen to anyone visiting Kyoto.
