Wayfarer Shin

We were four people in a two-bed room for three nights. It was clean apart from a small stain on the back of my pillow. The room was fairly spacious, but once we opened two large suitcases and one medium one, there was barely room to walk. The small bathroom was much like one in a budget hotel or Airbnb in Japan. After three nights it felt damp, especially since our room wasn’t scheduled for cleaning in between. Towels, bathrobes, toothbrushes, tea and coffee were available for anyone to take in the lobby and on each floor. That was handy, though fresh towels could be restocked faster; I also found a stain on one. There are only receptionists, and the cleaners are outside contractors, so I can’t comment on their service. The lobby was clean and had a tiny restroom, and you could store luggage there with a lock before check-in or after checkout. The nearest bus or train station and minimarkets or konbinis were a 4-5 minute walk away. Our group likes walking, but it would have been nicer to be closer to the station when we arrived. Kyoto’s central area isn’t very large, but getting around still involved quite a bit of walking.

The rooms are roomy and have a lovely Japanese feel, which makes this a good budget option for larger groups. It’s a reasonable walk from the train station. There aren’t many amenities, rooms are cleaned every three days, and check-in can be difficult.

The rooms are lovely, the check-in was easy, and the staff were really friendly. A great place and an excellent stay.

The location and service were both great, and I’d recommend staying here. A few room details weren’t practical, like having no power outlet on one side of the double bed.
