A really nice traditional-style place, with comfortable rooms and warm, accommodating staff. The shower sometimes took a while to heat up, and people talking at the bar across the street could get a little noisy, but neither bothered me much. It’s between central Gion and the market, around a brisk 20-minute walk to each, and there’s a sento nearby. I’d happily stay again.

The staff were great, helpful, and spoke English. After a long day, we loved the traditional bathtub. The room was cleaned daily, and they provided slippers, a kimono, and two towels per person, plus a TV and electric kettle for tea or cup noodles if you bring some. Sleeping on the traditional bamboo floor worked well for my husband, though I prefer a really cozy bed.

It’s quiet and traditional, and they’re welcoming to foreigners. These are the only people I stay with when I’m in Kyoto. My mother liked the yukata so much that she asked where she could buy them, and they sold her a couple at cost. The people who run the place are very accommodating.

The staff speak basic English and do all they can to help. There’s coin-operated laundry and a small onsen bath, which was a nice surprise, and the Wi-Fi worked great. The traditional Japanese rooms are a 15-minute walk from JR Kyoto station. It’s nice, just don’t expect the Ritz-Carlton. Recommended.

We were welcomed warmly, and the place was spotlessly clean. Although checkout was at 10am, they let us leave our luggage there until 3pm. It’s in a nice neighborhood too. I’d stay again.
