Check-in was easy, and the reception is a five-minute walk from Kyoto station. The staff were helpful and friendly throughout. We also liked being able to walk to Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka, and Kyoto's commercial district. Kiyomizu-Gojo subway station, bus stops, and convenience stores along Gojo-dori are nearby, and there's a 4.9-rated ramen shop right next door. The machiya's exterior keeps its classic Kyoto look, while inside it feels cozy and stylish, with Japanese details alongside modern comforts. It was clean overall. There was a slight damp smell on the upstairs carpet, probably from humidity. I didn't notice it myself, but my wife did. They provide an air freshener, which helps keep things feeling fresh.

It felt more like staying in a vacation home than a standard hotel, with a kitchen, cookware, dishes, cleaning supplies, and a washing machine. That freedom made for a really pleasant visit, and the townhouse was quiet and relaxing. I'd choose this kind of place again next time I'm in Kyoto. The traditional exterior and the stylish Japanese-Western interior worked nicely together. The indirect lighting looks good, but there is a lot of it and the rooms felt a little dim. Also, the fixtures above the zaisu chairs hang low. My friend and I both bumped our heads when standing up, so be careful.
