The open-air bath was a highlight for me. The cool valley air and northern stars visible through the branches made it easy to linger, though it’s not a good fit if you dislike insects. I stayed in mid-November 2025, when the Taurid meteor shower was happening. We walked a little way into the forest from the parking lot to get away from the inn’s lights and saw the Milky Way clearly, plus three meteors in an hour. One silver meteor streaked horizontally across the sky and left us gasping. This isn’t somewhere I’d recommend to everyone. I’d rather keep it as a secret for people who value things money can’t buy. The dorm had six handmade bunk beds, a table, TV, trash can and hangers. It was clean, well kept, and we weren’t cold. The lights seemed to attract stink bugs, though. There was insecticide, but we tried not to use it. Wi-Fi worked, which we were glad about. A group home is attached, and its residents also use the facilities. The hot springs were just right for long soaks. The duck hot pot was as delicious as people say. We had duck with sake, then filled up on kishimen noodles and rice porridge. The dorm package was 2500 yen, with check-in at 3 PM, check-out at 8 AM, and bath access until 8 PM. Dinner, a single duck hot pot serving with rice porridge set, was 1600 yen, and raw egg rice breakfast was 400 yen, making the total a very reasonable 5000 yen. I also checked out the campsite, with several solo spots in the woods beside the annex. Drainage isn’t great, so it’s probably better to go after snow has fallen and the ground has hardened. At breakfast, we couldn’t get fresh raw eggs because the chickens had all been killed in an animal attack, but there were fried eggs and side dishes.

There aren’t any convenience stores nearby, so it was worth spending some money at the shop. The old building was well cleaned, and I had a comfortable stay. The large public bath was clean too, with lots of locals stopping by in the evenings. Wi-Fi worked well and I was very satisfied with the setup. Definitely worth using when touring.

I’d like to come back here. It’s a quiet, relaxing hot spring inn in the mountains, with an old building that has a retro Showa-era feel. The duck hot pot at dinner was delicious, and the Japanese breakfast was satisfying.

What a hidden hot spring. I went mid-morning and had the place to myself. There’s one indoor bath, one outdoor bath, and a sauna that fits up to three people. It warms you right through. The day-use fee for adults is 600 yen. I’d love to return! 🤗❗️

I was glad to finally try this place, which I’d been curious about because it stands alone in the mountains. The exterior is old-fashioned, but inside it’s clean and well maintained. The water is clear and colorless, with a spring temperature of 9°C, so it’s heated and chlorinated, then circulated and filtered. The indoor bath is kept at 41-42°C, so I wasn’t expecting the spring water itself to be especially good quality. I went for a day trip on a weekend in November 2025 and arrived just after 1:00 PM. There were three other guests, so I could relax. The changing room has bath baskets, free key lockers, and a 100-yen coin-return locker for valuables. There are two bathrooms with hair dryers and tissues. The men’s bathroom has a toilet, but the one near the front desk is out of order. There are eight washbasins with body soap and rinse-in shampoo. One showerhead in the women’s bathroom was out of order. The showerheads range from standard ones to well-known brands like Mirabelle and Refa, so it was fun to try them. Water pressure was strong, especially on the standard heads. The indoor bath fits about three people, while the open-air bath is sized for one person to relax. The outdoor bath was full of insects, and on cold days the water gets colder too. On my visit, there was a massive stink bug infestation in the men’s bath. There’s a drain at the bottom of the indoor bath where hot water comes out. The women’s bath only had a slight chlorine smell, but the smell in the men’s bath was so strong that bathing was impossible. The sauna is tiny, really only suited to one person. Two people sit very close together and it feels cramped. There’s no cold bath or chairs in the open-air bath, so you can’t cool off out there. Sauna users had to take cold showers or pour water over themselves.
