Mei made our stay especially memorable. She served our kaiseki dinners and was great to chat with, and even helped us plan our time on Awaji Island and book a restaurant she thought we’d enjoy. Grill 8 was amazing! We spent two wonderful nights at Hotel New Awaji Plaza Awajishima in April 2026, with a room overlooking the Naruto straight and our own private onsen. The rest of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful too. It was a highlight of our trip, and we can’t wait to return. We’d give it more stars if we could.

We had a lovely ocean and bridge view from a spacious, spotless room. The hotel is in a peaceful setting, and dinner was a nice chance to try a variety of ingredients from Awaji Island. The public onsen was great, especially the outdoor bath at sunset.

The property has a lot of potential, but it feels old-fashioned in places. The spa and sauna need a serious upgrade, and the area smelled a bit. Our renovated room was spacious, though it already seemed dated. Dinner was good, but had a 1996 feel to it. The friendly staff were a plus, especially the super friendly Pool Guy! It seems geared more toward domestic visitors, so some Japanese would help. I probably wouldn’t come back unless they modernize the whole concept.

A high-quality stay. The room was roomy, clean, and had a nice view, and the in-room onsen was spacious and clean too. The staff were polite and friendly, and the food was great.

The location is just right for peace and quiet, with beautiful views. We’ve stayed in the old part twice now, and although it isn’t the most modern, we love it. The service is exceptional even by Japanese standards, and the Onsen is wonderful.
