Shirahama Club

The room was much bigger than I expected, lol, with a stylish antique feel. For dinner we ordered barbecue and a boat-shaped sashimi platter, and both were delicious. Breakfast was stylish and satisfying too. Thanks for the lovely food! The owner was dapper, funny, and very friendly, and his wife was beautiful. The staff were lovely as well. It made for a really fulfilling stay after a long time. They have a great range of alcoholic drinks, so there’s something for people of all ages to enjoy. I’d like to bring my daughters next time, and I want to come back to see the owner and his wife again!

It was more than seven years ago, so things may have changed since then. We skipped dinner that night, and the next morning the female owner offered neither an apology nor any support. It was really disheartening. They seem to have kept operating for a long time while changing the name and services, but I hope they remember that guests like us have been there. We’d been told dinner would be meat, so we expected beef or pork. Instead, they served duck, which nobody in my family could eat. When we explained that, the chef came out in a hurry and angrily said, “Duck is common in French cuisine, you’re being unreasonable, everyone else is enjoying it.” I’m not going to argue about what’s common or normal. I just wish they’d kindly offered us an alternative. My family has eaten French food before, of course.

A beach walk with our two dogs turned into one of our favorite memories from the trip. We stayed in the Banana Room, where there’s a playpen to leave the dogs in if you need to step out. The room was anything but ordinary, and the owners’ thoughtfulness went well beyond what we expected. They were warm and easy to talk to, so we got to ask them lots about the inn. The food was delicious too, as you’d expect. Next time I’d like to try the restaurant. The inn and its owners have a kind of magic about them that makes you want to come back.

The room was spacious and full of thoughtful touches. Being in it felt like I’d traveled abroad or wandered into another world. Just amazing! The food was delicious, and the owner and staff were so friendly that I could properly relax. I was lucky enough to get a sticker too. I’ll be cheering for Takaaki Nakagami!
