Ryokan Sangetsu

The warm feel of this ryokan made it a nice choice for my stay in Hirokoji. I’m used to business hotels and usually don’t like shared baths, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it. But I was glad to see I could book the bath for myself by writing my bathing time on the paper hanging on the door.

Visited September 7, 2024. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, so finding dinner was easy, and breakfast was healthy and delicious. The bath was big enough for about four adults. The facilities were old but very clean. There was no washlet, and the air conditioner was the old built-in kind I hadn’t seen in a while. I wasn’t sure at first if it would cool the room enough, but after about an hour it was cold enough even on low. I came by motorcycle, and there was only one parking space in front of the entrance, so it’s best to check ahead.

We stayed with our 2-year-old, and they had slippers for children. The welcoming atmosphere was appreciated, though they didn’t provide any other children’s amenities. This is a traditional inn, but the rooms and baths were spotless, and the old-fashioned feel was comfortable rather than bothersome. The women’s bath is family-style and suited two adults and one child. You can reserve it privately by writing your time on the board outside. It seems to be cleaned after each use. The price was very reasonable, and we had a pleasant stay. Thanks for the hospitality!

We stayed the night before heading to Izu. The breakfast was delicious, and I’d recommend it. It was an excellent value for a business hotel. Our Japanese-style room with seven tatami mats had plenty of space for two. If you’re driving, the hotel parking lot is diagonally across the road, and it costs 500 yen per night.
