Canopy By Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort

We loved our four nights here and would definitely come back. The staff made the experience: they were helpful, supportive, and incredibly kind. The hotel is modern and clean, with a calm, relaxing design, and the breakfast has lots of delicious choices. The second-floor gym and spa were very good, and the rooftop infinity pool had a phenomenal view over Irabu bridge toward Irabu island. The one letdown was the restaurant at the very top, which felt very expensive for the quality.

I had to email three times before anyone offered a snorkel activity from the beach. My private boat tour was cancelled, and they didn't suggest any other activities. It rains a lot here, so June is a bad time to come and can feel like a wasted vacation. The hotel itself is beautiful, though the view is just OK and the look is very industrial. The food was awful for me. Maybe that's because I'm American, but the hamburgers at both the Canopy rooftop bar and the regular Hilton's main-floor restaurant were disgusting. The nachos were gross chips with chili on top. The “American club sandwich” had soggy, untoasted white bread, barely any meat that I think was meant to be turkey, undercooked pork belly, cucumbers, and egg salad. I wanted to go into the kitchen and ask them to let me make a sandwich. The breakfast buffet was overpriced and gross too. The Hilton should bring a chef over to give the cooks some tips. I also felt the rooftop bar waiters and waitresses didn't like Americans. Five staff were just standing around, and I had to get up and ask them for a drink.

We were there during opening week, so there were some service problems that were understandable. Even so, I was really happy with our stay at this lovely new hotel. The breakfast was great, and the rooftop pool offers a great view.

I like how relaxed and laid-back the place feels. The rooftop infinity pool is nice, and mornings are cool!
