Sakuma House Miyakoya

I booked a female single room, but it was right beside the highway. Room 101 is next to the main entrance, so I could hear people talking outside and coming into the house. I thought it might be quiet at night, but cars passed all night and the noise was awful. The walls are so thin I heard my neighbor coughing at midnight and people in the next room talking at 6 a.m. There was room fragrance by the window, and the blankets and sheets all smelled of it. I'm sensitive to fragrance, and between that and the noise I barely slept. I had snorkeling booked the next morning and felt too exhausted to swim properly. I decided to leave and find somewhere else. I couldn't imagine going seven days without sleep. I'd booked seven nights, so I called Expedia HK to ask if they could help me get a refund for the final two or three nights if I checked out on day two. I explained everything to the manager too. He offered to move me, but there are only three or four rooms in the house and I knew two families with babies were staying there. I didn't want to risk hearing babies cry in the middle of the night, so I declined. They refused the refund and ignored Expedia's follow-up. It's far from the city center. There is an Aeon shopping center a five-minute walk away, but buses to the main streets run only about five times a day. I also found ants on the bed, and the bathrooms are very old. It really is a rural area. The Japanese manager was nice, but the white staff member was rude and seemed to do everything to protect the hotel's interests rather than the guest's. The building is very old, and the wall structure and nasty bathroom are the kind of things that can't be changed, so I left. For this price, you can get a Dormy Inn capsule in Tokyo, which is much quieter and cleaner.
