HOTEL chambre ASAMI

We managed fine despite speaking very little Japanese, since the accommodating staff helped us work through questions with a translation app. The place is small, but it was a good stay.

It's an older hotel, but they keep it in good shape, and I'd definitely stay again. WiFi is available, and there's a front door, so you don't need slippers. The unit bath and lack of shelves are inconvenient, though, and you can hear the people next door. The shower runs with such low pressure that rinsing off soap and shampoo takes ages. A single room is 8,000 yen if you book ahead, but it's about 18,000 yen on the day, lol. By the end, it doesn't really feel like I'm saving money, lol.

Once I settled in, the kitchen, fridge, and microwave made it easy to cook, and I got comfortable enough to feel like I was living there. The bed was comfortable too, and the deep bathtub was nice for a long soak, even if it was awkward to climb into. I knew from the reviews that the hotel was old, but it felt even older than I expected, with a keyed lock instead of an automatic one and steps up into the bathroom. The laundry area was beside an outdoor garbage spot with insects flying around, and some of the cleaning was careless, including lipstick on the tissue box. With hotel prices in Osaka going up because of the Expo, I appreciate that this place is still reasonably priced. Given how old the facilities are, maybe it could even cost less. I hope it stays a hidden gem for Japanese people.
